Memorial Inscriptions

Recording Sessions
At the end of 2011 the Society had completed its 15th year of recording memorial inscriptions in the churches and churchyards of the county and over 75% of the parishes have now been covered.  This is valuable work as the surface of many stones is deteriorating rapidly. For each parish we also record any nonconformist graveyards and, sometimes, older parish cemeteries, but not normally newer council cemeteries.

The Northern Group -  The Group meets on Fridays at two or three weekly intervals, commencing at 10 am. Note that recording has now finished for the 2011 season.

If you are a new volunteer please contact David Crombie at davidcrombie@yahoo.com  to let him know you would like to join the group and obtain details.

We welcome new helpers to our recording sessions, you don't need to be a Society member or to commit yourself to every session. Experienced members will be there to help guide you. The big area of the county so far virtually unrecorded lies to the south west of Northampton and includes the parishes around Towcester, Brackley and Daventry. We would be interested in working with groups in this area to record these parishes.

Publications
The recordings together with a graveyard plan are published as small booklets. Careful checking and editing takes time so please be patient if you are waiting for a particular booklet.

We have just published Memorial Inscription books for the following parishes:- Corby & Sudborough.

A full list of all the published Memorial Inscriptions books can be found here.
Download an order form here. Or they may be purchased online via Genfair.

Enquiries regarding volunteering for either group should be sent to :
Mary Ginns on 0115 9373199
or for the Northern group only to David Crombie
or for the Northampton group only to Angela Malin
